Lockdown part 3….Week 3

Woohoo! You made it! Can you believe it’s been 3 weeks, or does it feel like it’s been 3 years?!

Either way…time to do a happy dance! We may have no idea when lockdown will end but whenever that may be, we’re a 1 week closer to it ending…1 week closer to being able to see friends and family…1 week closer to being able to go out without looking over your shoulder or feeling guilty….1 week closer to being able to go to a cafe or the cinema…We’ve got this!

This week seems to have gone quite quickly for me despite feeling a little run down and my daughter having a bit of a bug. I had an inkling that she was going to be sick, so I quickly rummaged out a spare bed sheet to put down but didn’t quite make it in time!! Bless her, she felt sorry for herself and wanted her Mummy. So, she lay next to me in bed drifting in and out of sleep whilst I did some work. It’s safe to say that PE with Joe Wicks went out the window as she was very clingy, and I couldn’t really do a workout with her on my knee! However, we still managed to do Tot Bop (Tot Bop dance classes for children in Beds, Bucks & Herts) which I have to admit I’m still really enjoying even though it’s for the girls! After months of the girls only listening to ‘Trolls Wanna Have Good Times’ and Jessica Mauboy’s ‘We got love’, they are now obsessed with listening to Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ and Megan Trainor’s ‘Better When I’m Dancin!’

I tested out my D.I.Y skills when my mum had water running in her kitchen, being the determined woman that I am I decided to see if I could fix it and went onto her roof (fortunately it’s a flat roof otherwise I wouldn’t have managed!). It looks like it’s fixed…for now anyway! My girls wanted to watch from the window, and it was good for them to see me fix the roof as it shows them that women can do anything if they put their mind to it. I think it’s good for everyone to be able to do a certain element of D.I.Y and to be able to do basic things with a car such as check tyre pressures, check and top up oil, screen wash, change windscreen wipers etc.

I watched Joe Bidens inauguration this week. I’ve never really followed American politics that much especially since Trump was the President – thank God he’s gone!! (. I would never have visited America whilst Trump was in power.) However, I’m so pleased that Biden won, and I am hopeful of what he will achieve. Although it was short and sweet it was very heart-warming to watch Kamala Harris as she was sworn in as America’s first female Vice-President. Watching her face, she looked so happy and rightly so!! I also watched Joes speech which I found inspiring and hope that America will become a more united country. My girls watched some of it too and know that Joe is the new President.

I took my girls with me to vote in last year’s general election and although my eldest daughter was only 3 I still explained to her what I was doing and how important it was. Obviously, I hope that my daughters will become open minded liberal women and that they will never vote Tory but what I hope even more is that they will always vote. I feel that there’s a lot of people who don’t bother voting for whatever reason. I had a feeling that the Tories would win the general election but that didn’t stop me voting (and not for the Tory party). I don’t feel that my vote was wasted as all votes are counted including how many people didn’t vote. If we don’t vote particularly because we feel it won’t make any difference, then it really won’t ever make a difference. I find it really hard when people moan about politics or the government when they make it clear that they never vote. People need to realise that their vote does count! We’re lucky to be able to have to opportunity to vote and women fought incredibly hard in England to get the vote and even lost lives. How does their fight for our rights not count?!  It has taken more than a century for women across the world to get the right to vote but now women in 99% of countries can.

Here’s hoping for some warmer or sunnier weather soon! I need to get my arse in gear and make sure I resume PE with Joe from tomorrow. It’s my daughter’s birthday this week so that should keep me busy!

I hope you’ll find time for some self-care this week, whatever that may be.

For now, I’ll leave you with this…

‘I got called pretty today.’

‘…well, actually, the full statement was “you’re pretty annoying,” but I only focus on positive things!!!’
